In the wake of the September floods in our region, WSKG organized a Flood Relief Telethon with commercial radio and television stations resulting in a monumental effort. Together, our community helped raise over $250,000 in a single day. We are grateful to everyone who helped during this tragedy.
Flood Relief Telethon On September 7, 2011, Tropical Storm Lee rolled into the region resulting in devastating flooding. WSKG immediately switched focus from fundraising efforts to helping our community rebound. On September 14, broadcasters from WBNG, WICZ, WIVT, Equinox Broadcasting, Clear Channel, Citadel Communications and GM Broadcasting joined us in our studio as we hosted a Flood Relief Telethon. Over $250,000 was raised and donated to area United Way agencies for distribution to those most affected by the flood. Throughout the day, WSKG interviewed over 20 guests on radio and television, including elected officials and human services agency representatives. Guests discussed the impact of the flood locally and the availability of critical resources available to those impacted.
