VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - A new congressman now represents part of Pennsylvania’s northern tier.

Republican Fred Keller won a special election in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District on May 21. The district includes Susquehanna, Bradford, Tioga, and Wyoming Counties. He took his oath of office last night.

The Republican is a former state representative and supporter of President Donald Trump. Keller defends the president’s policies, including tariffs that opponents say hurt Pennsylvania farmers. Keller has said it's good the President isn’t being bullied by China.

In the election, he beat Democrat Marc Friedenberg by nearly with nearly 70 percent of the vote in the heavily Republican district. Keller replaces former Republican Congressman Tom Marino, who resigned in January.
