In Otsego County, Delgado Defends Impeachment Inquiry

Delgado Impeachment

ONEONTA, NY (WSKG) - New York 19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado held his third Otsego County town hall on Saturday night, while an impeachment inquiry into President Trump continues in Washington, D.C.

Over 75 people gathered in the Cherry Valley Community Center to ask the congressman question on topics ranging from green energy to education.

Meanwhile, Delgado, who's a freshman Democrat, also explained his reasoning for supporting the impeachment inquiry.

"He admitted that he solicited the aid of a foreign government to investigate a political rival," said Delgado. "That, in my estimation, is a violation of his responsibilities of his oath, and under election law, it is a crime."

Delgado made his decision soon before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the impeachment inquiry.

"Any American who see's that it's okay to welcome, to pry, individuals or foreign actors to have any role in the outcome of an election is not putting country first," Delgado added.

New York's 19th Congressional District includes Otsego, Delaware, and part of Broome County. Delgado upset incumbent Republican John Faso in the 2018 election with about 51-percent of the vote.

NY-19 is relatively split politically, with about 10 thousand more registered Democrats than Republicans. President Trump had success is several of the district's counties in 2016.
