VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — Starting November 12, New York counties* are accepting new applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), the federally funded program meant to help low-income households pay for heat during the winter.
Sonja Bennett, Deputy Commission of Assistance Program in Broome County, said it’s based on how much a household makes and how many people live there.
"If I went with a household of 4, the gross monthly income limit is $4,797," Bennett said.
Anyone who receives SNAP or temporary assistance benefits automatically qualifies.
To apply, call (607) 778-1100 or visit the state's website.
*An earlier version listed only Broome, but the application window is open for all counties.
