Early Voting Available At Two Tompkins County Locations

web

ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Early voting in New York State begins this Saturday continues through November 3rd.

In Tompkins County, Board of Elections commissioner Stephen DeWitt advised early voters to locate their polling places before hitting the road.  He says early voting might not be available at their traditional election day locations.

The state allowed each county to choose the number and locations of early voting venues.  In Tompkins County, there are two locations for early voting and their hours vary.

"The amount of preparation we've put into preparing for early voting is like, I would say equal to the amount of preparation you put into preparing for a general election," said DeWitt.

That means a lot more work for this year's election. Dewitt isn't complaining.

"It gives the people, the voters across the state many more options in which to vote rather than trying to sandwich the time to vote into on one particular day into their busy schedules."

Dewitt said people who can't vote early or on election day can still submit an absentee ballots. The deadline to apply in person for an absentee ballots is 5:00 p.m., November 4.

Early voting centers will be opened until November 3. The general election is November 5.
