VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — Edward Kopko announced his candidacy for Tompkins County District Attorney this week. He is running as a Democrat.
Current D.A. Matt Van Houten is also a Democrat. He has not made an official announcement, but told WSKG he plans to seek another term.*
Kopko was the defense attorney for a woman of color after an altercation with police last spring. He’s currently representing the Ithaca police investigator accused of mishandling dozens of cases.
On his campaign website, he said he wants to end mass incarceration and the criminalization of poverty.
This is the second time Kopko is vying for the position. He also ran in 2016.
