Tenney Claims Victory in NY-22, But NY-19 Is Still Too Close Too Call

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — Former Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is claiming victory in the Republican primary for New York's 22nd Congressional District, which includes part of Central New York and the Southern Tier.

“Thank you to all of the voters who exercised their right to vote in this primary election," Tenney said. "I am humbled to have the support of the Republican voters across NY-22."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more absentee ballots were sent in compared to a typical election. Those won't be counted until next week and will delay some official results. However, Tenney's opponent, George Phillips is conceding.

"I wish Claudia Tenney the best and success as Republicans try to take back the House of Representatives in the fall," Phillips said in a statement.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Tenney led Phillips by about 10,000 votes. The former Congresswoman represented NY-22 from 2017 to 2019. She lost her re-election effort to current Congressman Anthony Brindisi.

Meanwhile, things are less certain in New York's 19th District. Ola Hawatmeh leads Kyle Van De Water by less than 500 votes. The winner will try to unseat Democrat Antonio Delgado.

NY-19 includes Otsego and Delaware Counties along with part of Broome County.

The general election is November 3rd.
