Van De Water Wins GOP Primary Nomination for NY-19

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) - Attorney and Army veteran Kyle Van De Water secured the Republican nomination for New York’s 19th Congressional District on Tuesday. He is set to challenge Democratic incumbent Antonio Delgado (NY-19), who seeks a second term, this fall.

Green Party candidate Steve Greenfield and Libertarian Victoria Alexander are also on the ballot.

Van De Water defeated fashion designer Ola Hawatmeh with 57.5 percent of the vote. The race concluded June 23, but a surge in mail-in ballots delayed results.

The Army veteran served in Afghanistan, received the Bronze Star in 2011 and continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves legal corps, according to the Associated Press. Throughout his campaign, Van De Water’s promised increased funding for opioid treatment, protections for gun ownership rights and securing the southern border.

He will try to unseat Delgado during the general election on November 3.

New York's 19th Congressional District includes Otsego, Delaware and part of Broome County.
