Danks Burke Concedes New York State Senate Race

TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - Leslie Danks Burke conceded to incumbent Republican New York State Senator Tom O'Mara on Wednesday.

"While we must still ensure that every vote is counted and despite making significant gains on paper ballots, based on the numbers we have seen so far is it clear that we will not see the outcome we hoped for," Danks Burke said in a statement.

This was the second time Danks Burke has tried to unseat O'Mara to represent New York’s 58th district which includes Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Yates, and part of Tompkins Counties.

In recent days, Danks Burke attempted to bring suit against officials in Schuyler County over some invalidated absentee ballots. That case was dismissed by a New York Supreme Court judge.

O'Mara currently leads Danks Burke with 59 percent of votes to Danks Burke's 37 percent, according to the New York State Board of Elections.

In his message thanking voters, O'Mara credited his re-election on building an "an ever-growing, broad coalition of support" among voters. He described his victory in counties where he won by 65 or more percentage points as "landslide percentages."

O'Mara was first elected to the state senate in 2013.
