VESTAL, NY (WSKG)—According to numbers released by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Sunday night, COVID-19 cases are on the rise in 23 counties across the state.
Tompkins and Chenango Counties had “substantial” levels of transmission, compared to last week, when both counties were still classified as areas of “moderate” transmission.
Tompkins County had 68 new cases over the last week, while Chenango County saw 40 new cases.
The CDC issued new recommendations last week, encouraging residents in substantial or high-spread areas to wear masks while in groups in indoor spaces, no matter their vaccination status.
On July 30, the Tompkins County Health Department issued a health advisory also recommending that all residents wear masks when indoors.
