ROCHESTER, NY (WXXI) - Strong winds are forecast for much of the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and Western NY areas through Monday evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Broome, Monroe and most other counties throughout Western NY and the Finger Lakes from late Sunday night through Monday night.
Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are forecast for Monday afternoon with gusts of 50 to 55 mph possible on Monday afternoon and evening.
The Weather Service says that could cause some isolated power outages. Officials with Rochester Gas & Electric, and New York State Electric & Gas, which are both part of Avangrid, say that in preparation for the wind event, the companies are preparing approximately 100 additional crews to help with restoration efforts.
National Grid says it has increased staffing, called in outside resources and taken other steps to prepare for potential power line damage.
It will be mild on Monday morning with an early high of 55, but the temperature will fall to about 40 degrees later in the day with some showers as well.
Snow showers are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
