The Hamilton-Gibson Women's Project is preparing for their upcoming production of original works entitled WOMEN. This unique project, produced by Kacy Hagan of Wellsboro, brings together local writers, directors, actors and technicians - both experienced and new. A total of 48 original short monologues and scenes were initially submitted, and ultimately 29 of them have been chosen for this project. Kacy says, "The writers, the directors, the actors, the production team - everyone has come together to share part of themselves and their experiences as women in this show."

Writer Michele Somerville of Blossburg says, "It is an opportunity to share a personal experience in support of other women. Sometimes hearing other people's stories helps to normalize our experience. When we hear a story we relate to, we realize we are not alone." Ashley Ensminger, who is an experienced writer in other genres shares, "Writing for theatre is outside of my comfort zone, and I enjoy learning and challenging myself in that way. I was excited to connect with such an empowering and impactful organization in our community."

Kacy Hagan has organized an impressive group of collaborators to bring this program to life. The show has 28 actors in it, including 20 women, 6 men, and 2 young children, and each of the performers play multiple roles throughout the program. Actor Emily Cornell of Wellsboro, whose 5-year-old son Cooper is also in the show says, "This is the first show that one of my children is performing in with me. It's super special to share this hobby with him and we are having so much fun. I hope this is the first of many!" Along with nine writers and all of the actors, the creative team includes five women who are directing the various pieces in the show. In addition, the production team includes sound technician Nancy Laudermilch, stage manager Hazel James, prop master Marie Andrews and lighting technician Linda Kennedy of Wellsboro who remarks, "This is just a wonderful way to spend time among such a deep pool of creative women in the area." Amber Whitney, the woodshop teacher at Wellsboro Area High School, has built most of the set pieces and local artist Lucianna (Lou) Minoia has added artwork to the stage design.

The collaborators emphasize that the wide range of topics in the show have something for everyone to relate to. Cyndie Bortz of Wellsboro, an actor and newcomer to HG shares, "While I didn't ask to be in any specific piece, I have found that the pieces I was cast in have funny similarities to situations I have had in my own life. It makes me feel seen and heard knowing other women from all ages and walks of life can relate. We have all come together to bring life to these experiences: some funny, witty, emotional, and beautiful."

WOMEN: A Collection of Original Work, running April 12, 13, 19 & 20 at 7:30pm, and April 14 & 21 at 2:30pm at The Warehouse Theater in Wellsboro. There is an opening night reception on April 12th following the show. Reservations are recommended for all performances.
