Newfield Greenup Day started in April of 2023. It's a day dedicated to cleaning up trash from the roadsides of our town. This year it will be on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 from 9 am to noon. Volunteers sign in that day at Newfield Town Hall. Each volunteer will be assigned a strip of roadway to clean up and issued grabbers, black bags for trash, white bags for recycling, a handout with guidelines to follow, and reflective vests. All equipment is provided by the Cayuga Watershed Network. Once each person / group is done, the bags will be left at the next intersection of their assigned road. Any and all equipment that was borrowed will be returned to a bin stationed at Town Hall. On the following Monday, the Newfield Highway Department will pick up the bags from the specified roadways and deliver what we collect to Tompkins County Waste and Recycling where we have a waiver of up to 2,000 pounds worth of trash to be disposed of for free courtesy of Tompkins County.
