BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) - Former Broome County Legislator Karl Bernhardsen is running for County Executive.
The Republican announced his candidacy on Saturday. He’s looking to unseat current Democratic County Executive Jason Garnar.
"We’re losing jobs. We’re losing businesses. Our population is declining," Bernhardsen said during his announcement on Saturday. "While the national economy is thriving, Broome County continues to lag behind. Even here in Upstate New York, we can’t even keep up with nearby areas like Ithaca and Syracuse."
Bernhardsen served on the Broome Legislature from 2015 to 2016. His 13th district includes part of Binghamton's First Ward and the Westside.
