Keuka College To Remain Remote For The Rest Of The Semester

TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - Keuka College will continue online classes for the rest of the fall semester. The college first switched to online classes for two weeks earlier this month.

The move followed report of 11 new COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period. That pushed the total number of cases among students over 70. Before the outbreak, classes had been scheduled for move remote on Nov. 20.

The extension will take place despite the college having about a dozen reported COVID-19 cases.

Repeating her feelings about the initial decision, College President Amy Storey said the decision to keep students online is "disappointing". She said it was made for the safety of the community and students.

The initial outbreak was the result of an off-campus gathering that violated COVID-19 safety regulations and school guidelines.

Some students will be allowed to remain on campus for educational or personal reasons. Those who leave campus will receive room and board credit.

Keuka College is a private college in Yates County located on the shore of Keuka Lake.

Classes are scheduled to last until Dec. 5. Final exams will take place online the follow week.
