Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency this week in response to the measles outbreak across rural areas of New York including the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions. The declaration comes as Steuben County reported its 17th case on Tuesday.

The programs could face service interruptions with the looming cuts to safety net programs in the proposed federal budget.

“I appreciate the ambition, but we want to see what the science says, what the facts say on the application and ultimately we'll make a determination on that and that alone."
