Broome County Downgraded From "Yellow Zone"

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - The part of Broome County which had been designated a COVID-19 "yellow zone" by New York State has been downgraded.

The area included parts of Binghamton, Johnson City, Endicott and Endwell. The state designates areas with higher risk of COVID-19 among three zones: yellow, orange and red.

County Executive Jason Garnar thanked the community on Twitter, but also sent a warning. "We can’t let down our guard now, though," he added. "We are still seeing new cases from Halloween and the holidays are coming up. Be smart and stay safe."

Yellow zone measures require COVID-19 testing in schools, reduce gathering size limits and limit the number of people that can sit together at a restaurant table. The rules had been in effect since early October.

Other micro-clusters in region include Tioga and Chemung Counties. Gov. Andrew Cuomo added additional restrictions in Western New York on Wednesday.
