After Devils Exit, New Hockey Team Announced For Binghamton

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - The Binghamton Black Bears will be the latest hockey team to play at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in the city's downtown.

The team will play in the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL), which also has a team in Elmira.

"In the wake of the COVID pandemic, having a team playing in our Arena will give residents and visitors a great reason to come rediscover Downtown Binghamton," Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said.

The team replaces the Binghamton Devils of the American Hockey League (AHL), an affiliate of the National Hockey League's (NHL) New Jersey Devils. Last month, the Devils announced it did not plan to have the team return to Binghamton. Instead, New Jersey will move its affiliation to Utica.
