Binghamton has two Flock contracts for automatic license plate readers. One will automatically renew in August.

The number of municipalities reconsidering the use of Flock Safety's A.I.-powered automatic license plate readers is growing. The Binghamton City Council is considering whether to renew one of its contracts with the company.

Earlier this month, over a dozen people urged the city council to not renew its contract with Flock.

The city of Ithaca also ended its relationship with Flock Safety after public outcry in early March.

Ithaca’s Common Council passed a measure Wednesday that would sever ties with Flock Safety, which makes automatic license plate readers.

The county’s contract with Flock Safety is under increased scrutiny from local activists, who have raised concerns about the company’s track record in other places.
