ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Yvonne Wakim Dennis (Cherokee/Sand Hill/Syrian) is an award-winning author of books for children and adults. She is the Coach for the OJI:SDA’ Teachers Fellowship Program; the former director of the Children’s Cultural Center of Native America; the founder/past director of Nitchen, Inc., a support program for Indigenous families and the former Resource Director for the NYCDOE Native American Education Program. A journalist for Native Hoop Magazine, she is also a multicultural consultant, lecturer, workshop facilitator and interweaves environmental justice into all she does. Apart from her book awards, Dennis is honored to have been the recipient of the Tamaquah Lifetime Achievement Award (New England Council of Indians), the David Chow National Humanitarian Award, the NYC Parks Department Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Sanaka Award.
