Re-Remembering History Could Help Bridge Racial Divide, Says BU Professor

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) -- Anne Bailey believes we need to re-remember history, shaping it with the perspectives of people who weren’t in positions of power. She’s a historian at Binghamton University and in her recent book, “The Weeping Time: Memory and the Largest Slave Auction in American History,” she uses a proverb from Benin, Ghana and Togo:

“Until the lion has his or her own storyteller, the hunter will always have the best part of the story.”

Racial reconciliation, she says, can come through higher education.
