There was some opposition to the $650,000 purchase price for the nursing home, which flooded in 2011.

The legislature was supposed to vote on whether to award the county land bank $825,000 toward purchase and destruction of the old Vestal Nursing Center.

On Thursday, the Broome County legislature agreed to hold over a resolution to give the land bank over $850,000 to purchase and demolish the deteriorating building.

Broome County legislators voted along party lines Tuesday night to adopt a new legislative district map, favored by Republicans. Last week, many residents voiced their concerns about the map in a public hearing.

He said he’ll discuss a further legal challenge with an attorney, but will more likely pursue a write-in campaign for mayor.

Supporters say the law protects first responders while opponents worry about it will be abused.

It allows police to arrest anyone who harasses emergency first responders. Violators could face up to a year in prison, a $5,000 fine or both.
