The prosecutor is not currently investigating former police chief Joseph Zikuski.

The Broome County District Attorney confirmed a special prosecutor was appointed in July to oversee the criminal case against Joseph Zikuski’s girlfriend Susan Rice.

The report found Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski "attempted to interfere with a criminal investigation" into an altercation involving his girlfriend in July in Johnson City. Zikuski resigned last month, effective October 6.

Zikuski’s resignation was announced by the mayor. It becomes effective October 6.

The city wants to pay for the vehicles using federal stimulus funds.
