You can sign up as an individual golfer or grab your friends and register as a foursome! No worries if you’re flying solo—we’ll pair you up with fellow golfers for a fun day of play!

Join us at the Hartwick College Greenhouse (attached to the Johnstone Science Center) Thursday, June 5th from 12-5 PM and Friday, June 6th from 11 AM-4 PM for a native plant sale benefitting Super Heroes Humane Society.

We'll have over 40 species selected to grow well in our area. They are perfect for our pollinators, and there are options for wet areas, shade areas, and everything in between! ❤️

For adults and teens ages 16 and older, the University is offering the Virtual Intensive Stuttering Clinic for Adolescents and Adults from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 3 through July 3. The virtual sessions are conducted via Zoom.

The summer clinic program, which integrates individual and group therapy, was developed by licensed speech-language pathologists Rodney Gabel, professor and founding director of the Division of Speech and Language Pathology, and Cody Dew, assistant professor in the Division of Speech and Language Pathology.

Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is honored to present All is Loneliness: A Multimedia Tribute to Moondog. The exhibit opens on First Friday, June 6, from 5 -7 PM at 179 Front Street, Owego, NY 13827.

ABOUT MOONDOG
Street musician, instrument maker, and avant-garde composer, Louis Thomas Hardin (1916-1999), known as Moondog, inspired musicians as varied as Charlie Parker, Frank Zappa, and Igor Stravinsky. Known to perform his original compositions on Sixth Avenue in full Viking regalia, Moondog also maintained a home upstate in Candor, New York. All Is Loneliness: A Multimedia Tribute to the Life and Music of Moondog recognizes and celebrates the life of a true American original, whose contributions to jazz, classical, indie, folk, and rock music are incalculable. The exhibit will also explore Tioga County’s influence on this legendary artist.

Cast Iron Cowboys is a six piece country western band whose sound finds a sweet spot between classic blues and homegrown folk. First formed in early 2022, the Cowboys developed a style all their own. Inspired by Appalachian fiddle & banjo bluegrass and vintage country blues, the Cowboys combine a diverse mix of influences across American roots music, breathing new energy into an antique sound. Their ever-expanding repertoire includes original music and covers from a number of decades. Songs are led and sung in harmony by five of the Cowboys and line dancing, taught by band members or local experts, is a staple of their recurring performances. The band creates a welcoming environment with friendly instruction, often accompanied by honky tonk angels ready to help first-timers along. The band’s catalog of music also provides opportunities to two-step, waltz, swing, and stomp your boots along with the Cowboys on stage.

Founders Max Moses and Josh Chamberlain started this adventure because of their sheer passion to perform - and importantly, their love of music that gets people dancing. Max Moses (guitar), Josh Chamberlain (bass), Nate Marshall (piano/harmonica), Joe Hayward (banjo/pedal steel), Zeb Whitford (drums), and Margaret Harper (vocals/mandolin) drive forward a rousing effort that will bring you back to the classics, teach you new ways to move, and leave you wanting more.

Cast Iron Cowboys steadily grows their dedicated fan base, consistently packing venues and adding new friends to the Cast Iron Community. They perform often in Tompkins County, and have taken their talents to cities across New York and PA.

The band’s most recent milestones came in July of 2024 with two performances and the All-star Jam at the 32nd annual Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival the final jam with Donna the Buffalo, and a debut release of original live recordings titled "First Four Miles,” found on all online music streaming platforms.

This Summer at Mama Bear: Local artist Andi Pisacano will teach a class on watercolor and expression of emotions through color. She wants to emphasize the “colors of kindness” while teaching watercolor techniques. This class is suitable for all ages and is open to the public. Class size is limited, so please fill out the registration form if you are interested!

David Peckham (OSFL principal piano/keyboard) will perform with other musicians from the OSFL to bring a powerful presentation of music for organ, the "king of the instruments" and the "instrument of kings" as the final concert in the 30th season of the OSFL.

OVERVIEW
IF YOU KEEP A STAR IN A CAGE is an immersive blend of visual art, live performance, poetry and music, unraveling the complexities of fame, control, and identity in the digital age. Examining the tension between adoration and captivity, audiences will be confronted with echoes of pop culture’s most scrutinized figures–women who were worshiped, devoured and discarded in real time. Through an empathetic lens, this work seeks to humanize these icons, challenging viewers to see beyond the headlines. This is not about nostalgia; it’s about survival and redemption.

ABOUT JESS PETRYLAK
Jess Petrylak (b. 1995) is a multi-disciplinary artist working in installation, poetry and mixed media. She holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from Purchase College and an AS in Visual Communications from SUNY Broome. Using found objects, gel pens, nail polish, rhinestones, glitter, and river water, she transforms overlooked materials into layered tactile expressions. Petrylak lives and works in upstate New York.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Jess Petrylak explores the cultural landscape of the early aughts, focusing on the complex interplay between fame, identity and personal grief. Drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Britney Spears, her work delves into themes of feminine martyrdom, mysticism, and ritual, capturing the tension between public persona and private struggle. By portraying these elements through a refined aesthetic, she aims to illuminate the hidden dimensions of fame and its impact on personal identity, blending glamour with a profound exploration of resilience and transformation.

This installation is recommended for audiences 18+ because it explores adult themes that some may find triggering. IF YOU KEEP A STAR IN A CAGE grapples with topics of contemporary life that include sexuality and sexual exploitation, gender and LGBTQIA+ identity, family struggles, body image and shaming, drug use, and mental health.
