Tri-Cities Opera’s THE THREE BEARS: A Sensory-Friendly Performance

Tri-Cities Opera’s THE THREE BEARS: A Sensory-Friendly Performance

Tri-Cities Opera’s THE THREE BEARS: A Sensory-Friendly Performance

Tri-Cities Opera invites you to the forest! Meet Goldilocks, a lonely girl who is looking for a place to belong, and the three bears, who are upset that she has entered their house uninvited and scheme to frighten her away. Reimagining the familiar fairy tale, this opera explores critical themes of loneliness and belonging, balancing safety with welcome, and treating others with compassion–all through an interactive and imaginative setting! Named as a nod to Binghamton’s famous carousels, Opera-Go-Round has been delivering the excitement of a fully-staged children’s opera to schools throughout New York State and northern Pennsylvania for nearly 50 years.

This is a 40-minute Sensory-Friendly performance specifically designed to serve children and adults on the autism spectrum or any sensory or social cognitive disorders.

Adjustments to the production include:

– house lights dimmed (but not off)
– no strobes or flashing lights
– consistent sound volume
– explanation of what will be seen and heard – narrators in the story
– quiet area in the venue (Mandeville Hall)
– fidgets welcome
– audience encouraged to talk and react
– ability to leave your seats
– If you need to use a specific electronic device, such as an iPad, to help with your enjoyment of the show, please inform the ushers as you enter the theatre.
– sensory-friendly activities are available in the second floor lobby, for use before or during the performance
