The Hornell, NY, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration takes place on Monday, January 19th, at the Community Arts Center, Broadway Mall, downtown Hornell.
The Celebration includes a Dinner of Gumbo, vegetarian option, collard greens, cornbread, and dessert. A suggested donation of $3 - with no one turned away due to lack of funds.
"Then and Now...the Continuing Challenge," the theme of the Celebration, will be highlighted by a slide presentation and the premier performance of the Southern Tier Living Theater Troupe, "Just Us."
The Celebration is sponsored by the Group for Racial and Religious Healing, which came about after the 2022 distribution of racist literature in Hornell, left at the Catholic church, the Black church and the synagogue. Following a "Healing Walk" at the targeted places of worship, the group has continued with Dr. King celebrations, Black History month educational events, and Juneteenth outdoor celebrations.

The musical evolution of Old Blind Dogs began in Aberdeen in 1992 with roots that grew from the eclectic music scene flourishing in the Granite City during the early 90s. Four musicians from very different musical backgrounds came together to create a full-time professional touring band with the aim of showcasing the rich tradition of songs and tunes from Northeast Scotland on an international stage.
The current line up consists of original member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals), Aaron Jones (cittern/guitar/vocals), and Donald Hay (percussion/vocals). The band is completed by the brilliant piper/whistle player Mike Katz (formerly with The Battlefield Band). Inducted into the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards "Hall of Fame" in 2020, the 'Dugs' have celebrated over 30 years on the road.
Now working on a new record, their fourteenth studio album is still turning heads: "With an affectionate yet playful attitude to tradition, 'Knucklehead Circus' is a joyous, glorious, and thoroughly Scottish precursor to the Old Blind Dogs' 30th anniversary." -- 4 stars (Songlines)
The Night Eagle is delighted to welcome them back for a special Monday evening show!
