Friday May 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.All are welcome. TCSD classes are invited to attend. Students receive a free book
Saturday, May 3rd 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Name-Your-Price-Day
Sunday, May 4th hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Name-Your-Price-Day

****Please note that book sellers with scanners will not be allowed until Saturday and Sunday, and should be prepared with payment and your own boxes and bags.

Families this is an amazing opportunity to stock your home with books for your young readers. Reading at home with your children is one of the very best ways to lock in children’s literacy skills. Reading is magic for young minds!

Corning History and Baseball Exhibit. Baseball collection featuring jerseys, programs, baseball cards, local history of baseball in the area and more. Featuring the Corning Red Sox PONY League and other teams.

Kenneth Haas, local bird enthusiast and nature photographer will display his photos at the Newfield Public Library during the month of April. Ken strives to help others appreciate the beauty of birds through his photography, and to instill a sense of urgency for their protection and conservation of their habitat. In addition to photography, Ken also co-leads bird walks at Sapsucker Woods in Ithaca and for a Pennsylvania chapter of the Sierra Club. Join us for an artist reception Saturday, April 19th from 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM.

Are you looking to clean off your bookshelves to make way for new titles? Ulysses Philomathic Library trustees are gladly accepting donations for the fall sale through April 12th. We are especially appreciative of children's picture and chapter books and YA titles, both fiction and nonfiction.

Monthly Open Mic returns starting Thursday, January 9th, and the first Thursday of the month after that (February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, and June 5). Bring your Instruments - or your poem or story - and Friends for an evening of Music and the Spoken Word in our professional setting. No charge for the evening (although donations gladly accepted) – and some refreshments will be available.

Eliza and Martin Carthy May Day celebration concert at Valley Folk Music Society in Corning

Martin Carthy – the "Pete Seeger of England" – and his daughter Eliza are giants of English folk music, both having been honored by the Queen with MBEs in recognition of their cultural contributions.

As young performers, Norma Waterson (Eliza's now deceased mother) and Martin immersed themselves in their native traditional music. They fueled the folk revival, performing at festivals and in folk clubs with relatives of Norma as Waterson/Carthy. A former member of Steeleye Span, Carthy nurtured Bob Dylan and taught Scarborough Fair to Paul Simon. He's a ballad singer, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric guitarist and an authoritative interpreter of song. This is a very rare appearance in Corning NY!

Eliza is one of the most recognizable faces in British folk. She has received numerous BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and in 2021 she became President of the English Folk Dance & Song Society.

Launching head-on into the UK folk scene in the early 90s, Eliza quickly became one of its great innovators. From the purest unaccompanied traditional songs to original music incorporating myriad influences, she has moved through English folk music like a force of nature, stirring it up and putting it back on the map. As a member of big groups The Imagined Village and The Wayward Band she has headlined at festivals around the world. In 2022 she celebrated 30 years in the music business with "Queen Of The Whirl", featuring new interpretations of fan-selected favorites from her previous albums, recorded with her band Eliza Carthy & The Restitution.

This project is made possible in part by the QuickARTS grant program administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.

There is a self-running jam on concert nights beginning 90 minutes before each concert when we get in the building to set up. Bring your instrument and come jam and sing with us.

Binghamton University's "Harpur Studio Jazz Band," established in 2016 and directed by Professor Laurence Elder, is a dynamic and versatile student ensemble with an emphasis on funk, fusion, contemporary and Latin Jazz. In addition to its on-campus performances, the group has recently been featured on television for the long-running community arts showcase WSKG Expressions, and also makes frequent appearances at venues such as Atomic Tom’s in downtown Binghamton. Featuring music by Art Blakey, Eddie Palmieri, Robert Glasper and The Beatles to name a few, this upcoming performance is one you won't want to miss! Free Admission
