Starting in July 2026, WSKG News will share audio recordings of the monthly Broome County Legislature meetings.

The meeting took place almost a month after a fire destroyed a motel in Broome County used as temporary housing for homeless people. The fire killed six and displaced over 50 people.

There was some opposition to the $650,000 purchase price for the nursing home, which flooded in 2011.

On Thursday, the Broome County legislature agreed to hold over a resolution to give the land bank over $850,000 to purchase and demolish the deteriorating building.

The new map was proposed after a New York appeals court upheld a lower court's decision to reject the legislature’s previous attempt at redrawing its district lines.

Last month, a New York appeals court agreed with a lower court's ruling and rejected the previous district map, requiring the legislature to draw it again.

In its last session of 2022, the Republican-held county Legislature agreed to a measure to increase the pay for the county executive, and tie elected positions’ salaries to inflation.

The proposed agreement between Broome County and Centers for Care, a large health care company, has some legislators concerned.
